Our clients returned to us after buying their new home, having loved their first Lima Kitchen so much that they knew they wanted to work with us again. This property is set to be their long‑term family home, and the kitchen needed to perform as an everyday space while also catering for large family gatherings. It had to meet their needs now, while their girls are small, and continue to work beautifully as they grow.

Client Brief
They wanted a bright, open, highly functional and social kitchen, a space that brought the whole family together. The existing layout was dark and divided into four separate rooms, making it feel disconnected and uninviting. Their brief centred on creating a single, cohesive hub with excellent flow, generous workspace, sociable seating and a layout that made the most of the garden views and natural light.
Design Challenges
The original ground floor layout lacked openness and clarity, with multiple small rooms breaking up the space. Reconfiguring the entire area required structural changes, new openings, and a complete rethink of circulation. The design needed to introduce sociability without compromising functionality, and the angles of the building required a carefully considered island shape that felt intentional rather than forced.
Lima’s Solutions
We proposed a full reconfiguration of the ground floor: removing walls, building new ones, and changing doors and windows to maximise light and strengthen the connection to the garden. A central fireplace now acts as a subtle room divide while maintaining visual connection to the main kitchen. The clean backdrop provides a strong architectural line, and the mirrored splashback keeps the cook connected to the wider space. The island faces into the room, creating a highly social focal point, and its custom shape works harmoniously with the building’s angles while adding character. The result is a kitchen that excels in functionality, sociability and beauty, a bright, open family hub that perfectly meets our client’s brief.
