Having completed the
utility / boot room in this home in the prior year we were very excited to be back working on the kitchen. This cottage comes with all the quirks you would expect. Low ceilings, nooks, uneven walls, poor insulation and so on. Working with the rooms inherent features have kept the charm of this space. When designing this space we worked to highlight existing feature such as the timber lintel, remaining exposed brick and utilising the nooks. Introducing such a large island into the space has provided a wonderful centre piece and relocating the sink to the window bay has increased space in a high traffic area.
As a family they like to spend time together walking their dog across fields, growing fruit and veg and cooking together. The space they had inherited was not conducive to this, putting a big focus on being able to spend time together in the kitchen during the design process. This has been achieved with so much more. They have found that their children sit at the island with homework whilst meals are being prepared. That they generally sit together overlooking the view and that the whole experience of being in their new kitchen is more enjoyable, sociable and flexible.
We do love a challenge and such elegant results make it all worthwhile.
