How long have you been a Kitchen Installer Apprentice for Lima Kitchens?
Around 9 months.
How did you discover that you wanted to do this?
Becoming a dad really gave me the push to get a career as opposed to working in a warehouse or as a labourer. I have always been creative and had an urge to create and build things, so kitchen fitting is perfect for me.
What are you enjoying most about the apprenticeship and working with Lima Kitchens?
I enjoy meeting new people and seeing how projects evolve from a rip out to a brand new fitted kitchen, I enjoy the learning process and skills I gain along the way. I take a lot of pride in what I do.
What are you most daunted by when thinking about areas you still need to master?
When I first went into a kitchen I was fitting and took a look at the plan i thought how can anyone make this a reality, but over time I learned how to do things and of course there is still so much to learn, for me it’s the confidence that daunts me, once I’ve done something independently I get more confident but it’s getting there that is scary as you want to get everything perfectly all the time.
With a view to having the apprenticeship completed by the start of 2024, how do you see yourself continuing to develop?
My focus is to keep improving and getting better and mastering the skills I have gained as well as constantly learning new ones as I become a more independent kitchen fitter.
What is your top tip for achieving the best possible finish when installing a kitchen?
Door alignment is crucial, if they aren’t equally lined up it’s one of the first things people will notice and when done correctly makes the kitchen stand out and look complete.
